Advertising and You

For this post, describe and explain one advertisement that has appealed to you on an emotional, psychological level.

For example, one commercial that sticks in my head is the Geico caveman commercial, especially the one where the caveman is working in an office and then runs into the street, rips off his tie and dress shirt, and goes bowling with his fellow cavemen. I have no patience for meetings or formality, so this commercial reflects my desire for creativity and freedom. If I were looking to Mark and Pearson's book for the accurate classification, I would say this commercial reflects the Outlaw and Magician. The caveman both breaks the rules and makes something "true," even if that truth is just a night out bowling (and I don't even bowl)...

The commercial that really affects me emotionally is that of the foundations in where you help a child financially because his or her parents cannot support him or her. Or it could be because they lost their home or are too poor to purchase clothes and attend school. These foundations show the child's image and it is just heart breaking. I just cannot bare to watch because it breaks my heart. I love children and well just to know that there is a child out there that probably has not even had one meal yet, just brings tears to my eyes. Looking at Mark and Pearson's book for the accurate classification, I would say that this commercial reflects the caregiver.

  2. One commercial that affects me emotionally is Sarah McLachlan SPCA Commercial. The commercial has clips of animals that were abused. There is one clip that shows a cat with a missing eye, and it has a cast on its arm. It breaks my heart that these poor, defenseless animals have to suffer, and it makes me angry at the people who neglect and abuse animals. Sarah’s song “Arms of an angel” fits perfectly for the commercial. The commercial reflects the caregiver.

  3. One commercial that always gets my attention is the "Sun Drop" commercial. It is about a new soda. However this commercial does not affect me emotionally, it does pyschologically. Every time is see this commercial it makes me stop and watch it because of the music and the way the girl is dancing. This commerical always makes me thirsty and purchase the soda advertise. This commercial makes my mind/brain wonder if the soda is really good. Unfortuanly, I never actually purchase this soda. I wonder if anyone has?

  4. I have to agree with Amelia Gonzalez about the SPCA commercial it is just so sad seeing any animal being abused. Then the songs they play while their showing the animals makes it even sadder. Basically any commercial that shows an animal being abused affects me emotionally and it makes me cry because they do not deserve to be treated that way. This commercial reflects the Caregiver.

  5. A commercial that makes me laugh is the M&M get me a snack commercial. The husband and wife are watching a movie, the wife politely asks for a snack, the husband opens the cabinet door and gets pelted with bread, cereal, and any other object the M&M characters can get their hands on. The husband simply replies get in the bowl. The commercial reflects the jester archetype, it makes you laugh and have a good time.

  6. Any commercial with Kim Kardashian always captures my attention. Her commercials with Carls Jr. and Sketchers are racy. Her commercials make me forget about the product she is selling, and I'm just focused on her. She reflects the lover.

  7. One of my favorite commercials is the one where the dad is sitting with his son under a tree watching the sun go down. It's a commercial for lifesavers candy. "Going, going, gone". It's so sweet. There is a special bond between a father and a son that cannot be broken. That commercial emphasizes that bond and touches my heart. The father represents the Caregiver archetype.

  8. An advertisement that I have found appealing on an emotional level has been the St. Jude Children’s Hospital commercial. The commercial I always remember is where they use celebrities and children from the hospital as a means to raise money for the hospital. In the commercial, the children get to tell their heartbreaking stories along with the celebrities. Every time I saw the commercial it broke my heart to see the children suffering from illnesses. Therefore, I always feel the need to help out those particular charities. The celebrities portrayed in the commercial represent the Caregiver in the commercial because they are helping the children raise funds for the hospital and the children represent the Innocent because they are innocent children that are suffering.

  9. One commercial that I find emotional is where there are dogs that are being mistreated and there is always a sad slow song playing. It makes me feel sad and sometimes makes me cry. Sara mclachlan is the spokesperson and she would be the caregiver.

  10. A commercial that I find humorous is the Old Spice commercial. It’s about a buff man who targets the audience by comparing himself to other men who don’t use Old Spice. In Mark and Pearson’s book this commercial would be classified under the magician. How by using Old Spice a man can transform himself into someone that their women would like them to be.

  11. A commercial that appeals to me emotionallhy would be the Subaru commercial when the father sees his daughter as a little girl in the care. The reason why it appeals to me emotionally becasue my dad was actually trying to avoid teaching me how to drive because he didn't want me to grow up and drive away from him. This commercial reminds me how my dad sees me as everyday, given the fact that i am the only child. The commercial uses the father as an archetypal figure of a caregiver and a little girl as innocence.

  12. The commercial that appeals to me emotionally is the one of St. Judes Hospital. This comercial uses children that are currently hopitalized and by their sides are their parents. It breaks my heart seeing very young children suffering from this evil disease (cancer). The commercial refelcts the arcetypal figure of a caregiver.

  13. The commercial that affects me emotionally is the "Pampers: For every little miracle" commercial. The commercial basically states that every child needs the best, which according to them is Pampers. But what affects me are the images of the babies. Every child I see in the images has both or at least one parents that loves and protects him, which is what every child needs. The image that always makes me smile is the last image where the baby is smiling while his mom is rocking him back and forth. The commercial reflect the archetypal figure of a caregiver.

  14. A commercial that really affected me the first time I saw it was an AD Council commercial against Drunk Driving. The commercial is to stop those from drinking while buzz because the results may lead to just as much damage as drunk driving. It strikes an emotional cord since it shows buddy crying while the other one is being rehabilitated by the paramedics. Another line of commercials that I think attracts a lot of people and are funny, the Old Spice commercials. I see Yoselin wrote this in her blog and I agree. I am not really sure what Old Spice smells like but I am very much aware of the products commercials and their ridiculous premise. I feel the commercial reflects that of the jester because they are humorous.

  15. The commercial that appeals to me the most are the E-Trade with the baby. Got into trouble for riding the dog and then gets mad a the dog for not giving the warning bark. Baby pulls out the flip pad gets that taken away and then pulls out the blackberry. This reminds me of my little one as she is always wanting to play with my cpu and phone and it is funny

  16. A great commercial I have seen is the Sesame street version for an Old spice commerical. Sesame street titles it "your not a monster." The sesame street commerical features Grover saying to the viewer to look at him then look yourself then adds "sadly your not a monster." The screen lifts in the background and Grover is on a ship holding an oyster, inside it tickets to a show then rides off onto the beach on a horse which is actually a cow (moo). Funny commerical. This realtes to Mark and Pearson's achetype of the jester.
Here is the link to the video just in case any would like to view it.

  17. The advertisement that really catches my attention is the SunDrop Dancing commercial. The commercial is an advertisement for a soda brand and has a girl dancing and getting down to the song "Drop it like its hot." Its a really catchy commercial, its funny and hard to ignore. The choice of song is probably what makes it good, but thats just my opinion.

  18. Kinda funny… but it was a tampon commercial were the star of the commercial was kayaking. Being a female and a kayaker, this commercial is something that I could greatly relate to. This commercial is representing a carefree woman who is adventurous and outgoing. Jen Scarbrough
