Hello All,
For this post, I just want you to make a descriptive analysis: what archetype does the fruit or cigar label advertisement use?
1. Choose one of the advertisements.
2. Describe one archetype that advertisement uses (each advertisement uses multiple archetypes).
3. Do not repeat a previous entry; make your analysis original and unique.

ReplyDeleteIn the advertisement of the Mustang the archetype of the hero is being used. The mustang protrays an animal of endurance and strength. In the advertisement the rider and mustang are positioned so that one can see the strength and muscle of the horse. A hero is known for his bravery and strength. The mustang looks to be manuevering out of a dangerous situation as the rider seems to be holding on showing the heroic, bravery the horse embodies. ReplyDeleteThe adverstisement of the College-Heights Orange and Lemon Ass'n confused me at first because I didn't know it was about fruit. Once I did, though, the archetype I immediately became aware of was the use of the colors. Historically, purple symbolizes royalty, which means that the advertisement is depicting the Orange and Lemons Ass'n as the leader or ruler in the fruit industry. In addition, the color yellow usually symbolizes wisdom giving the advertisement a sense of truth in that its products are guaranteed.
The advertisement CO-ED BRAND COLLEGE HEIGHTS ORANGE LEMON uses the woman as the archetype. She is seen as happy graduate which signifies a woman can too achieve as well as men in agriculture. During this time, the 1940's is allowing this generation to consider equality amongst women in the workforce.

ReplyDeleteIn the advertisement, MUSTANG AMERICAN FRUIT GROWERS, the archetype that I instantly noticed is color. The use of blue and orange are complementary colors, so immediately the human eye is attracted to colors that pop off each other. Having the man riding the wild mustang in bright orange placed behind a vibrant blue background is the use of complementary colors as their archetype.

ReplyDeleteThe advertisement of the college graduate uses the archetype of the sage because it shows how oranges and lemons can help a student be successful in life. The college student was eating proper fruits and vegetables during their child life, so they are more likely to be healthy and have positive thoughts of getting a college education.

ReplyDeleteI found it funny, but the Antonia and Cleopatra advertisement utilizes the archetype of the lover. This is seen in the image by Cleopatra relaxing on the chair with a great deal of skin showing beckoning the man towards her, who seems to be unable to take his gaze away. It sends the image that smoking can be pleasurable and that it holds a sexual appeal for others.

ReplyDeleteThe Antonio and Cleopatra Cigar advertisement uses the symbol of money, wealth, and gold. This encourages the buyer to purchase their brand of cigars because it makes the buyer think that this particular brand of cigar is for the elite, the aristocrats. The symbols of gold, money, and wealth are used to show that the people who smoke these cigars are top notch and classy. People who enjoy money and wealth will enjoy Antonio and Cleopatra's Cigars. These cigars are "Top Quality", as the ad notes, because only the finest of people smoke them. If the wealthy are smoking these cigars, they must be good!

ReplyDeleteThe advertisement of the Mustang brand fruits has the archetype of the horseman. There is power and dominance associated with a horseman. Stevens describes a horseman has one who mastered the forces of nature and disciplined them to his service. Having a horse is a symbol of supreme status and it heigtens your status. Therefore, this advertisement depicts the fruit as helping heighten our status too.
The advertisement of Antonio Y Cleopatra uses the archetype of queen and power, which is the archetypal feminine as regal authority; great mother queen of heaven[...]she is lunar silver to the King's solar gold. together they consummate [...] the union of the masculine and feminine.

ReplyDeleteThe mustang advertisement uses the archetype of the explorer to capture the attention of the viewer. The advertisement tries to draw in the customer by showing them the adventurous side of fruit. Since explorers are seen as valiant and strong the costumer wants the best product so they will be drawn in by the image of the strong mustang and the adventurous rider which makes them feel like they picked the best product.
The advertisement of the Antonio y Cleopatra really caught my eye to focus on "the center" the contrast between the lighting and color really emphasizes the focus and that is the middle of the advertisement. "The Center" focuses the viewer to set aside all that is going on around and focus on the message in the middle.
