For our first entry, post a brief introduction about yourself: your major, career plans, favorite novel, and so on.

  1. My name is Monica Morley and I am a Liberal Studies major. My future goals professionally are to become an Elementary school teacher and eventually become a Principal. I enjoy working with kids and currently work for an after school program at Noble Elementary. My favorite book is The Giver by Lois Lowry. I read this book in Jr. High and it's been my favorite ever since.

  2. Hello, my name is Yuliana Bravo. I am a senior and majoring in Liberal Studies. My future goal is to become an Elementary school teacher. I am currently working for the Mini-Corps program here at CSUB, this program allows me to work at school cites as a tutor; with our priority being migrant students. This year I will be working at College Heights Elementary. My favorite novel is Flowers for Algernon.

  3. Hello, my name is Nanse Mendoza and I am a junior majoring in Chemistry (with a concentration in Biochemistry) on the pre-medical route. I plan to apply to medical school within the next year where I'll be spending another 4 years of schooling. After that, I hope to become an emergency room doctor somewhere in Bakersfield. My favorite novel is Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry and my favorite band is Guns n Roses.

My career goal is to be an elementary school teacher for primary grades(k-2) or special education. l have wanted to be teacher since I was ten years old and I know it is the right career for me because I love working with kids and I have alot of patience and dedication in helping them succeed. My favorite novel is To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee.

  8. Hello, my name is Lakela Spencer. I tranferred from the University of Pittsburgh one year ago. I am a senior majoring in Liberal Studies and Sociology. I currently work with adults with disabilities. My goal after graduation is to open a group home that caters to people with disadvantages. I would also like to mention my puppy's name is Que and he enjoys chewing anything in site.

  11. Hello class my name is Gricelda Gonzalez, a senior majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Child Development. I am a 21 year old Mexican American that loves life and everyone in it. Despite a cold drink I enjoy listening to classic rock and cooking authentic homemade dishes. As far as career plans go I would love to become a Parol Officer, to help fully rehabilitate ex offenders. By providing services such as education programs, counseling, jobs and anything thats in my reach to help benefit my clients. I do not have a favorite novel but I do enjoy movies based on novels :) . Although I do not have a favorite novel I do have a favorite quote written by C.S Lewis, Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. I am very easy going and a very opened minded human. I hope to see you all soon and to together make this the best quarter ever!

  12. Hello everyone, my name is Ofelia Gomez. I am a senior majoring in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. My future goals professionally are to become a school Psychologist. I love working with kids and currently work for CARD as a therapist. When I was in High School I discovered that I really liked reading, and now it has become a passion. I cannot recall the numbers of novels I have read but one that stands out is Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

  13. Greetings,

    My name is Juan Figueroa. I am a Sociology major with a concentration in ethnic studies. My academic goals are to first finish my bachelors, and secondly to persue a masters degree in educational leadership and public policy. My goal is to be a principal or vice principal at a middle school or highschool.

    I love to learn and teach others. Some of my fondest memories come from coaching soccer and coordinating a mentoring program for children of prisoners. One interesting thing is that I am Central Regional Representative for my fraternity and I am in the process of recruiting men interested in founding a chapter of my fraternity on this campus.

  14. Hello everyone, my name is Courtney Parker. I am a senior majoring in Psychology, with a minor in peak. My future goals is to work in the field of sports psychology or just the sports field in general.

    I am also a student- athlete,participating in track and field. I am also the student manager of CSUB's volleyball team. As you can tell I enjoy sports a great deal.I also have some experience at coaching at the high school and club level. Lastly, I do not neccessarily have a favorite novel, but I do enjoy reading the Bible.

  16. Hello everyone, my name is Ashley Coyle. I am a liberal studies major, however, I will not currently be taking the path towards teaching. I am working on finishing my degree and will be working in the business field. I love spending time with my daughter who is almost two years old. Right now the only thing I have time to read between school, work, and family is Dr. Seuss.

  17. Hello All..my name is Lesley Davis, this is currently my fourth year attending CSUB. My major is Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. I plan on becomming an Occupational Therapist or a counselor in a prison. My favorite novel is "The Help" written by Kathryn Stockett.

    I also work as a mentor with a non profit organization called the Wendale Davis Foundation,helping at risk youth.

    My name is Sandy Torrealba and I’m a senior at CSUB. I am an outgoing person who enjoys dancing, reading and of course shopping. Fall is my last quarter and looking forward to receiving my BA in Criminal Justice. The reason why I decided to major in criminal justice is because I want to work in corrections and become a Correctional Officer. I also want to someday work in investigation for the FBI. The type of books I read are romance and mystery. Some of my favorites are “in Cold Blood” by Truman Capote and “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.

My goal is to become a manager trainer; this will allow me to travel a lot and it's a very good opportunity for me to get to visit many places. I really don't read but I once read the book "Always Running" and I really liked that book. If I read a book it has to be related to a real life story.

  24. Hello, my name is Ashley Dawson. I am in my senior year, full-time, pursuing a Liberal Studies degree. I'm currently in the IBEST blended program, so I am taking teaching credential courses in addition to courses for my major. I intend to obtain a multiple subject credential (grades K-6) as well as qualify to teach Mathematics as a single-subject (grades 7-12). Currently, I manage an after school program full-time at an elementary school.
    I enjoy classic novels, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte being my favorite, as well as non-fiction or educational books. I find most modern fiction hard to get into. As for music, while I do enjoy modern rock and hip hop/RnB, I have a special taste for oldies and classic rock. I have a [tasteful] shrine to Steve Miller in my home!

My plan in life is to continue my education at a dental school so that i can become a dentist and rule the world, just kidding. My life goal is to becomea dentist and open my own clinic someday. My favorite book would have to be Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I like all types of music except bluegrass. I am very outgoing and i can get along with anyone.

  26. Well hey peeps! My name is Matthew Thompson and I am a Business Major with an emphasis in Marketing. My dream career goal is to be a manager of actors in Hollywood! I work as an Activity Leader for Bakersfield City School Districts. The school I work at is Cesar Chavez Elementary and the activity I lead is Vocal Music (Choir). I am also a full time paid actor at the Gaslight Melodrama in Rosedale. My favorite book would have to be Of Mice and Men! I've never been big into reading, but I can pick that book up at any time and read it!! I hope everyone has a good time in this class and I hope we all pass with flying colors!!!

  27. Bonjour fellow classmates! My name is Erica Hernandez. I am a full time student currently pursuing a major in Liberal Studies. After graduating in the spring, I will pursue my master's degree. I hope to become a multiple subject teacher. In the future, I look forward to becoming a principal. One of my favorite novels is Ramona. I enjoy the outdoors very much. In the near future, I would love to spend some time traveling and set foot on every continent-I am definitely looking forward to Europe and learning about different cultures, people, history, and the arts.

I work at Lakeside Pool as a pool manager and also at Horizon School as an after school program facilitator. I love working with kids and helping them to do their best. I am also excited to start teaching a class at my church. I look forward to learn and grow along with my students. A book I remember reading and enjoying is A Rose for Emily because I never knew what was going to happen next.

  32. Hello class, my name is Clint Watkins. My favorite novel is "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, but mostly love political thrillers. I am a senior at CSUB as a Liberal Studies major. I have been a Realtor for the last 5 years. Real Estate got slow for a while for me and so I decided to go back to school to graduate. I have been offered a good opportunity to be a manager of a new real estate company, but have enjoyed being in the elementary classroom more and more. So, for the moment, I am torn.
